Bewitched or I Dream of Jeannie? Which is your favorite?
You can go through the history of television and you’ll find one classic TV show influenced each other. The majority of the time, those aspirants to the television throne are found out pretty quickly by the audience. Other times, however, the imitator brings enough originality to the table to make it a success in its own way. That was the case with Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie.
Moreover, Bewitched arrived first, starting in 1964 and running for eight seasons until 1972. I Dream of Jeannie began in 1965 and ran until 1970. Bewitched starred Elizabeth Montgomery as a witch named Samantha who falls in love and marries human Darrin Stephens played first by Dick York, and then later by Dick Sargent.
And those of you who don’t know Bewitched, Samantha’s mother, Endora, disapproves of Darrin and pretty much all other humans as well. Her disfavor, in fact, often leads her to put spells on Darrin to make his life grinding.
And you know I Dream of Jeannie is also American fantasy tv series starring Barbara Eden as Jeannie, who is 2,000 yrs old, and Larry Hagman as an astronaut who becomes her master, with whom she falls in love at first sight and eventually marries.
Tony at first keeps Jeannie in her bottle most of the time, but he finally gives in and allows her to enjoy a life of her own. However, her life is devoted mostly to his, and most of their problems stem from her love and affection towards her master.
So…which show was your favorite?
Who had a better way of channeling their magic?
Well, both of them are much more mesmerizing and have their own ways of magic.
On Bewitched, Samantha had two ways of making magic. She would either raise her arms and speak in rhyming, or, more often, she would twitch her nose and make things happen without a word. This no doubt caused many attacks amongst viewers who tried to do the same with their faces! On the other hand, In I Dream of Jeannie, Jeannie would have to fold her arms over each other and blink, as she is Jeannie (jinn).
The difference is In Bewitched, Samantha could lose her arms in a horrible accident and still make her nose twitch to make some magic. And If Jeannie lost her arms or was wearing a really tight blindfold, she couldn’t do magic.
So here is the introduction of the two. If you wanna listen to more of their story just listen to my podcast. And let me know in the comment section below.
